Isaiah 53:1-5 starts out with two questions, “WHO has believed our message?” The word “believe” that is used here in the Greek, aman, means to receive something as true and sure. The following question is, “And to WHOM has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” The word “revealed” is the Greek word galah- to uncover or expose. The prophet is about to take us on a gruesome but sobering journey into the life of Christ and wants to know who will receive this message and uncover the truth behind it. He goes on to describe the life of the Messiah, the suffering servant, and His ultimate purpose for being sent into the world, to redeem His creation and to display His kingdom. He (Messiah) was sent to the world as a regular looking guy, "nothing we would be attracted to (vs 3) yet He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted (to know) with grief. We did not esteem (value) Him! Have we not all at some point been there? And even having been through all of this rejection He pressed forward towards His passion for us! Verse 4 takes a sharp turn and describes what He did with our weaknesses, BUT in fact HE has borne (to carry) our griefs, and sorrows and pain. He was wounded for OUR transgressions (rebellion), He was crushed (beat to pieces) for OUR iniquities (perversity), OUR punishment fell on Him and by His stripes (39) we ARE healed. Body, soul, mind. HEALED. So as the prophet asks “ WHO has believed our message? And to WHOM has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” You may feel you don’t deserve it, no one does! Jesus carried everything to the cross, and paid a very high price for your freedom and healing. All you have to do is believe and receive that it’s already done. Jesus didn't just go to the cross FOR you, He went AS you! The old is gone, the new has come! Healing IS part of your identity IN Christ. Be healed!
